After a smooth boat ride on Fullers ferry, I caught a bus taking me to the Onetangi Beach to soak up and recharge my body with some Vitamin D ūüôā

What a great day! – I thought. Right now In Europe, it’s freezing, cold and gray and here in New Zealand, it’s February, which means it’s the end of their summer season. It’s a welcoming 27 degrees. Warm, pleasant, perfect weather to explore more of the natural beauty of Waikehe Island.

I love summer when you can be free of ‘heavy clothing’ and just wear something light. Walk along the beach barefoot while the ocean’s breeze stroking your body and the sunshine lifting up your soul. It’s just something so amazingly freeing¬†about this wholehearted nature experience.

Bonus tip: Make sure you apply plenty of sun screen as in New Zealand the Ozon layer thinner as most places so even on a cloudy day, you can easily get burned if you not careful!

I walked along the beach (it’s stretch out in 2km along the shore) and admired the POHUTUKAWA TREES which are also called New Zealand¬īs Christmas trees.

Then hopped on the bus again and headed to the little romantic town called Oneroa. The town where lots of Kiwi couples retire when they had enough from the busy city life. I can completely relate to that.

Lots of cute shops, cafes, art sculptures and boutiques with fresh veggies along with the advantage of being close to the beach. Perfect spot to consider if you have kids or planning a retirement in an arty, quiet and relaxing place.

This island is also known as the paradise for wine lovers!

Don’t forget to check out one of the great wineries – my recommendation would be the Cable Bay Vineyards but all wineries are fab on the island.

Top rated wineries on Waiheke Island.
